Inspired by storybooks and the process of traditional cel animation, Heather Berthelette creates illustrative paintings and drawings that are reminiscent of the fairy tales and imaginative narratives of her youth. Since 2014, her work has explored the psychological and symbolic parallels between her life experiences and beloved childhood tales. Her bold expression uses an array of materials including oil paints, gouache, coloured pencils, and digital media.
Raised in a small New England town, Heather spent the entirety of her childhood dreaming and pretending she was somewhere else. She completed her art degrees at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Northeastern University in Boston. When she is not traveling abroad, Heather lives and paints in both southeastern Massachusetts and Paris, France.
